A car is stolen every 28 seconds, but most of us do not even think of the possibility that it could happen to us. Society as a whole does not see car thievery as a threat, especially in rural areas that are believed to be a lot safer than the bigger cities. Also, it is always in the back of our minds that the auto insurance company will reimburse us for our loss... right? If you are not absolutely sure, now is the time to find out.
It really does not matter where you live, the statistics for auto theft can be frightening. Every day drivers walk out of all sorts of places, including their own homes, to find nothing left of their vehicle except for some broken glass. Over the years, auto theft has dropped, but, it is still a very real threat to us all.

There are drivers that do not even lock their car doors when they walk away, even if they are leaving it there for hours at a time. And, let's not forget about those “quick” runs into the bathroom or gas station. People even leave their cars running or the keys sitting inside while they do these things.
There are an amazing amount of cars stolen each year with the keys in the ignition and the car is running with the owner nearby. If you were a thief, would you prefer to hot wire a car and hope that nobody notices you, or would you pick the car already running where you can just walk up to it and climb right in to drive off easily?
When you first filled out your insurance forms, you probably filled out a section asking about your vehicle's safety features. These include things like car alarms, fuel switches and GPS location systems. Having any of these features on your car goes a long way to making sure that you vehicle is not stolen and if it is, it will be easy to find it and get it back to you before much time has passed.
Nobody wants to worry about their vehicle being stolen while out on the road. But, with the right kind of precautions, the instance of getting your vehicle stolen, will decrease significantly. It's also good to know that your auto insurance company will be backing you up the whole time you are out and about.
